    Saturday, July 21st - Monterey Pop (D.A. Pennebaker, 1968)

Documentary / concert film of the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. The festival is remembered for the first major American appearances by Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Ravi Shankar, the first large scale public performance of Janis Joplin, and the introduction to a large, predominantly white audience of Otis Redding. Yes, THIS is the film where Jimi Hendrix, not to be outdone by The Who's onstage guitar and drum kit demolition, LIGHTS his guitar on fire, smashes it and finally throws the remains into the crowd.
