    Cade Tompkins Projects is pleased to present a group of rediscovered original paintings and sculpture by mid-century animal artist Walter Addison (1914-1982). Addison’s affinity for animals is evident in his lively and inventive depictions of them in a variety of media, ranging from drawings and watercolors to oils and sculpture. The artist always worked from live animals, which allowed him to study the anatomy, musculature, and movement of numerous species. Addison kept a house full of wild and domesticated animals, including raccoons, skunks, dogs, and cats, both in his East Village loft and in the converted blacksmith’s barn in Washington Depot (Litchfield Country), Connecticut, where he lived with his wife Rhoda from 1965 until his death in 1982.
