Gallery Z is excited to host “Re-Configured Egos” a duo exhibit by Shari and Christian Rubeck. Come and experience wild, contemporary paintings and sculptures by this husband and wife team as they draw upon human and animal psyche, street art, fantasy and humor for inspiration.

Shari Weschler Rubeck (b. 1970), is originally from Larchmont, NY. She graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a major in painting and a minor in art history. She currently lives in Kingstown, Rhode Island. Shari has been awarded and published as a Featured Emerging Artist in Visual Overture’s fall 2011 issue. Her works have exhibited in New York, Washington DC, Maryland, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

In “Re-Configured Egos”, Shari will be presenting a new body of work titled “New Beginnings”. She states “Connectivity is strong in a shrinking world. A new race is in progress. Some hold onto the organic, while many submit to the machine. Fur, feather, scale, skin, chips and wires; only time will tell what wondrous new shapes these characters will assume.”

Christian Rubeck (b. 1966), is originally from Mercersburg, PA, and went to Virginia Commonwealth University with a major in sculpture. Inspired by an elective sculpture class in 1985, Christian’s first “found objects” were created after being pulled from Richmond, Virginia’s alleys. Since then he had been in numerous exhibits in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Maryland.

Christian states “One of my first pieces titled “Love seat” started with a discarded restaurant booth. Twenty seven years later, I have “Love seat II” as part of this exhibition. It may be interesting to compare the photo in my binder with the follow-up piece in the gallery.” He continues, “This body of work comes at a time of personal change and introspection.”

Shari and Christian Rubeck share a studio they call “Art in Mind Studios” in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
