| Providence Singers: New World Rhythm, American Masterworks for Chorus and Percussion |
Presented By:
Providence Singers, with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project - Featured at the FirstWorks Festival!
Join us for the rhythmic energy of these American choral-percussion masterworks:
• the New England premiere of Lou Harrison's epic La Koro Sutro (Heart Wisdom), scored for the multi-player American Gamelan and Esperanto-singing chorus;
• the world premiere of Where All Is Buried, the Singers' latest commission by Grammy-nominated composer Tarik O'Regan;
• A Good Understanding,a double-chorus work by Rhode-Island-raised Nico Muhly, whose music is frequently featured in The New Yorker magazine
• Three songs for chorus a cappella by Philip Glass
• Clapping Music and Music for Pieces of Wood by 2009 Pulitzer winner Steve Reich.
This concert is supported in part by a National Endowment for the Arts American Masterpieces grant. The Providence Singers receives general operating support from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts.
