Fusionworks Dance Company offers the perfect experience for both the dance aficionado, who attends several performances each year, and the novice who has not yet seen live dance. Do you like to draw your own conclusions or would you rather have a peek into the process? No matter which kind of person you are Fusionworks offers the perfect performance experience for you.
Join Fusionworks on Saturday evening for the extremely popular Unwrapped concert for the unabashedly curious. Deb Meunier will give you a behind-the-scenes peek at the entire concert process. Through introductions to each of the dances she explains the choreography, costumes, music and even technical information. If you would like to watch the dances and draw your own conclusions then Friday’s traditional concert is a perfect fit for you.
Each concert will feature the Rhode Island premiere of international choreographer Pascal Rioult’s Wien danced to the music of Maurice Ravel. Faithful to Ravel’s intentions, Wien is a fantastic and fatal swirling of tragic dimensions. The Viennese waltz, the very image of social refinement, becomes the symbol of a disintegrating society taken into a whirlpool of violence and humiliation. Wein has been performed across the globe and now Fusionworks will bring it to Rhode Island.
Also featured will be the premiere of Finning by Artistic Director Deb Meunier: a swirling, driving, emotionally charged dance that dives into the controversy surrounding the practice of finning. Meunier explores the heights and depths of humanity in this powerful dance.
So that a smile is part of this concert series, Meunier’s sexy, hip swinging Buenos Dias, performed to the soaring guitar of Carlos Santana, will be performed. Join this sassy, high-energy troupe known for their ability to consistently fascinate audiences with variety, talent and gutsy physicality. Depart from the everyday humdrum, and spend time with Fusionworks Dance Company.
