Pell Chafee Performance Center

The Pell Chafee named in honor of Senator Claiborne Pell and the late Senator John Chafee. The center's dedication was held on Monday September 26, 2005 . 

• The former Empire Street branch of Citizens Bank built in 1929, Citizens Bank’s 2000 gift to Trinity Repertory Company. 
• Phased conversion by Durkee Brown Viveiros & Werenfels Architects
• a home for the Brown University/Trinity Rep MFA graduate training programs
• a home for Trinity Rep’s K-12 education/enrichment programs, such as the Textron Young Actors Studio
• site for special events
• Recipient of the 2005 Providence Preservation Society Adaptive Reuse Award

Refurbishments

• historic restoration of building elements
• removal of 1970s-era dropped ceiling
• acoustic treatment of vaulted ceiling
• a new main entrance vestibule, new ramps
• construction of classroom/studio spaces at lower level
• utilities (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fully sprinklered addressable fire alarm system)
• accessibility

Street level: the Citizens Bank Theater

• Flexible performance space (45’ x 80’)
• Lighting grid: 25’ from floor
• Potential capacity of 250 (seated); 450 (no seating)
• Accessible classrooms and restroom
• Concessions area

Lower level: the Lugosch Family Education Center: 7 class studios (size varies), restrooms
