Church of St. Mary

We are a Franciscan community called to welcome, love, and serve. The Church of St. Mary is one of the oldest parishes in the city. The Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province have been in downtown Providence for over fifty years. They assumed responsibility for the Church of St. Mary on Broadway in June of 2006. We are a welcoming congregation that worships God in sacrament and service. We strive to be inclusive and to meet the needs of a diverse population that comes from a variety of cities and towns.

We provide:

• The celebration of liturgy and all the sacraments, including Sunday Mass in Korean

• Faith formation for adults through our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) and less formal scripture study groups, a book circle, and movie discussions

• Religious education for children in grades kindergarten through high school, with special sacramental preparation for children who have not received the sacraments at the traditional ages

• A vibrant music ministry consisting of a mixed choir, a men’s choir, and a contemporary instrumental ensemble

• Service to one another and our community, such as our homebound and hospitalized ministry and our Poverello Center that includes a client-choice food program, a wellness program, and a Bread & Blessings sandwich program for the homeless

• Special community building opportunities such as a broad, active Pastoral Council and annual events including an International Night highlighting our ethnic diversity and a fun-filled holiday Bazaar on Broadway serve
